Unease Grows Over Trump Tariffs Despite 'Progress' In Japan Trade Talks

Uncertainty over Donald Trump's tariff blitz mounted Thursday after the Fed chief warned of rising prices and "volatility" while "progress" flagged by the U. S. president in talks with Japan lifted markets slightly.

But the cascade of daily equity losses that followed Trump’s April 2 tariff announcement wasn’t enough to force the president to back down.

But those negotiations are running parallel to a deepening confrontation with top US economic rival China -- and concern over widespread disruption.

One of the architects of US President Donald Trump's tariff blitz has advocated a shake-up of the global trade and financial systems, centred on a radical strategy to weaken the dollar.
