Israeli soldiers are risking jail by refusing to fight in Gaza

Gaza has suffered vast destruction with a colossal humanitarian impact.

The Hamas-led attacks on 7 October 2023 killed 1,200 Israelis and 251 others were taken hostage.

The deal between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza is a welcome development after 15 months of a brutal conflict that has caused untold suffering for millions of people, although several questions remain about the understanding reached by the two sides at the prodding of mediators such as the United States and Qatar.

Israeli soldiers are now the most hated people in some parts of the world, followed closely by Israeli civilians.
