After China, EU hits back at Donald Trump with tariffs targeting €21 billion worth goods

The E. U. is still formulating a response to other U. S. tariffs, including on cars, as well as to a blanket 20 percent tariff that Trump announced as part of what he called his “Liberation Day” campaign.

Donald Trump’s tariffs took effect last night with the EU due to vote today on a retaliatory list drawn up by the European Commission.

The European Union on Wednesday voted to approve its first set of retaliatory measures to counter tariffs imposed by the U. S. on steel and aluminum.

The EU plans to introduce 25% tariffs on scores of goods from almonds to yachts, with the first duties being collected from 15 April, while the bulk apply from 15 May and the remainder from 1 December.
