I'll explain one thing everybody in this country needs to know: If the president [Trump], and I'm certain that he will, fulfills his commitment to increase tariffs up to 20 percent across the board, 60 percent on China, 200 percent on John Deere manufactured in Mexico, then we're going to pay more than just to put this in the consumers' stores,
A tariff is a tax paid by the U.S. importer, not a foreign country or the exporter. This tax ultimately comes out of consumers' pockets through higher prices,
The U.S. market and the Mexican market are actually not separate markets,
All my products are currently made internationally, and while some might suggest I 'just switch to American manufacturers,' it's not that simple,
The main victim will be the American consumer, because at the end of the day, tariffs are more or less reflected in prices,
One of the main reasons why Trump’s campaign was successful, was that people felt that inflation had increased during Biden’s last term,
We’ve already seen this [from Trump] – first you threaten, then you negotiate,
Did we really think that Trump was going to become more institutional or more formal?”
I don’t rule out that he would implement them temporarily to give a result to his electoral base, which would be happy to see that Donald Trump is being consistent with his campaign promises,
It is unacceptable and would cause inflation and job losses in Mexico and the United States,
Dialogue is the best path to achieve understanding, peace and prosperity for our two countries,
Trump may have just tossed the threat out there, as he does,
We negotiate as equals, there is no subordination here, because we are a great nation, ... I think we are going to reach an agreement."
If he doesn't like a certain practice or policy initiative, he can use it as leverage to threaten them,
If a percentage of what the United States spends on war were dedicated to peace and development, it would address the underlying causes of migration,
One tariff would be followed by another in response, escalating until we risk harming mutual businesses,
Caravans of migrants no longer reach the border,
We expect to have a conversation with him very soon,
Maybe President Trump doesn't know this, but of those arriving at the border—which is significantly fewer, 75 percent less than in December 2023—half them have a CBP One appointment. In other words, they have an appointment. So, they [the U.S.] are the ones inviting them to come to the United States,
To one tariff will come another and so on until we put our common businesses at risk,
