A criminal case was opened against Artemy Ostanin on Sunday in Russia for “inciting hatred or enmity” after he allegedly made “hostile remarks about those who had suffered injury and were no longer able to work” during a stand-up performance in Moscow last month.
In a clip from a stand-up performance that was posted online, Artemy Ostanin told a joke about a supposed encounter with a legless beggar in the Moscow metro.
On Tuesday, the Investigative Committee dropped any reference to a Ukraine war veteran in its announcement of Ostanin’s arrest while attempting to cross the Russian border.
