What I found when I was doing my research in the Alaskan Triangle, was that a number of these missing person cases legitimately could not be solved
The US Coast Guard District 17 responded to an aircraft emergency notification from Alaska Rescue Coordination Center at 4:30 p.m. today for a Cessna Caravan that reported to have 10 people aboard,
They're prepared to be out all night, they will search here until they find them or somebody else finds them. If they don't find anything, we'll probably rally another crew to go and help."
